The original Union Labor Hospital
in Eureka, California, created by the newly unionized timber and mill workers as a charitable, non-profit organization, opened for patient care December 19, 1908.  After ninety years of service in the hospital field, Union Labor Hospital Association established the Union Labor Health Foundation in 1997.

The Foundation’s Community Health Grants support non-profit organizations within Humboldt County in response to health-related needs.  Due dates for applications are: March 1 and September 1.

In addition, the Board of Directors has created the Angel Fund to accommodate requests for small grants to meet immediate health needs of individuals.  Applications are accepted on a referral basis from school personnel, public agency staff, non-profit staff and medical professionals and are reviewed weekly to provide a rapid response to urgent needs.  Angel Fund grant requests must be less than $500.  Most grants made are between $50 and $200.

In 2001, the Children’s Dental Angel Fund was created which provides small grants to meet immediate dental needs of children.  This fund is similar to the Angel Fund except it addresses dental needs specifically and applications are reviewed monthly.

The Board of Directors of the Union Labor Health Foundation is proud to carry on the tradition of serving the health care needs of the people in our community.
